Two thousand years ago, the Maccabean army issued this powerful call to arms to the Jewish people, to revolt against the unbridled hedonism and moral decay of the ruling Seleucid empire. Theirs was a culture, a way of life, that threatened both Jewish life and Jewish lives.
This Chanukah, the Jewish people are once again facing an existential threat.
